Chelsea's QUALITY EFFORT AWARD PROGRAM
Implementing The Quality Effort Award Program
Children are fascinated by the relationship between a sports team and a learning team in the classroom. Assist students in seeing the similarities between participating, as a student, in a learning team and participating, as an athlete, in a sports team.
Discuss and explain the basis for awards.
Effort and cooperation are the keys to earning an award.
Grades are not the criteria. Effort in music, art, physical education, etc., counts, too.
Explain that the child is working for QUALITY!
Discuss what makes a winner.
No player starts out as an excellent player; each has to work at it.
Discuss what makes a team.
What happens when one team player does not cooperate?
Who is the coach?
How important is the coach?
Do we argue with the coach?
Do we follow the coach's instructions?
Why is it necessary to listen to the coach?
Discuss team RULES.
Curfew -- Bedtime! Professional teams have curfews.
Diet -- When in training, PROS watch their diets closely. Too much junk food is not going to help you win the game.
Homework -- No player would miss out on practice, studying the plays, or exercising.
Being on time -- Being late upsets the schedule and affects the whole team. One player’s tardiness could lead to poor performance by other players.
Discuss goals and goal setting.
Help children understand goals, both short-term and long-range.
